Commentary:
The “Defense/Life Rights Bill” modestly proposes a compromise between the right to self-defense, and the right to life. It does so in two areas: weapons and abortion.
The compromise proposed for weapons is merely the original Second Amendment, rewritten as a single clause for clarity. This explicitly links right to bear arms, with well-regulated militia. The second clause affirms some necessary regulations for militia: no children, and no traitors. The third clause makes gun control a matter of state’s rights.
The compromise proposed for abortions is merely Roe v. Wade.
Tying together these is section 1, which says that both sections apply, or neither. So this is a double-balanced proposal: balanced between guns and abortions, and within those, balanced between rights and responsibility.
Both sections involve defense of property. The use of guns for this is a commonplace; and abortion is defense of a woman’s most private property. And men, beware! If Church and State get their clammy little hands on women’s most private property, then next they’ll grab at men’s most private property!
I give out this Modest Proposal without expectation of it being adopted in a Trump presidency, or that it would have been adopted in a Harris presidency. This is simply my expression of what I see as right and true. And who knows? The one thing guaranteed from Trump is chaos. Anything can happen.
