Tecumseh’s Curse and Trump

Tecumseh’s Curse and Trump

The legend of Tecumseh’s Curse is that the Shawnee warrior Tecumseh cast this curse on the Presidency: that anyone elected President on a year ending in zero shall die in office. Tecumseh’s curse has racked up an impressive toll, including Harrison, Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, Harding, FDR and JFK. Some were murder most foul, and some were health-related. The curse didn’t kill Reagan, but his mind died; and it missed Dubya, but his whole family’s political career died.

I like Tecumseh’s curse. It’s authentic Americana. The Presidency should have a curse attached to it, for the street cred.

In my 2020 post-election letter to the candidates, in which I congratulate the losers and condole the winner, I advised Biden to disarm the curse by resigning from office and leaving politics. Thus his political career dies instead of him. I warned him that the later he leaves, the more likely that the ‘health problem’ is real.

He followed my advice, at the latest possible moment. He resigned his candidacy just before the convention, and threw his support to Harris, and will soon leave politics.

Now Trump has long alleged that he actually won in 2020, a year ending in zero. This is only in his mind, but that means that in his mind, Tecumseh’s Curse applies to him! It’s a death curse in his mind; so I speculate that his mind will die in office. That process is evidently on track.

So he’ll end up like Reagan; medically mindless in office. Is this a Republican theme? If Republicans like Presidents without human minds, then why not follow Mark Twain’s advice and elect a cat?
