Fallen Felon
Fallen Felon
Once upon a time, a convicted felon summoned up the Devil. He proposed a deal: that in exchange for his soul, he shall never face any consequences for his many crimes. The Devil replied, “But that is already the System.”
From then on, the felon’s only law was lawlessness. He and a few prospered at the expense of many; for the System protects but does not constrain the Few, and it constrains but does not protect the Many.
One day the felon went too far even for the System, so it broke down. That was as the Devil foresaw and intended. The falling System took down the felon and his cronies. His final consequence was inconsequence, and his legacy was ruin.
The Many lost much, but as a silver lining they gained losing the System, his cronies, and him.
Moral: Inconsequence has consequences.
