Looking-Glass Time In Looking-Glass Land: a second is 60 minutes long, a minute is 60 hours long, an hour is 24 days long, a day is 365 years long, but leap days are 366 years long. So in Looking-Glass Land: How many hours are in a second? How many days are in a second? How many years are in a second? How many leap years are in a second? How many days are in a minute? How many years are in a minute? How many leap years are in a minute? How many years are in an hour? How many leap years are in an hour?
Team Taser Here I propose a replacement for football. It was meant as a simulated war game, but it turns out that chronic repeated football tackles damage the brain. Team Taser forbids tackling, but it arms every player with tasers. This is to make their falling-down authentic. (Paintball and laser-tag have an authenticity problem.) Perhaps we can make Team Taser a ball game like football; each team tries to carry a ball to a goal despite the other team’s tasering resistance. Or perhaps Team Taser can be a death-cage game, with the last one standing winning it for the team. Voltages and currents of tasers are to be regulated. No doubt this will force the evolution of sports tasers, which will hit the streets. Once someone is tased, they are out for the game. This is to give in-game authenticity, but also...
Tecumseh’s Curse and Trump The legend of Tecumseh’s Curse is that the Shawnee warrior Tecumseh cast this curse on the Presidency: that anyone elected President on a year ending in zero shall die in office. Tecumseh’s curse has racked up an impressive toll, including Harrison, Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, Harding, FDR and JFK. Some were murder most foul, and some were health-related. The curse didn’t kill Reagan, but his mind died; and it missed Dubya, but his whole family’s political career died. I like Tecumseh’s curse. It’s authentic Americana. The Presidency should have a curse attached to it, for the street cred. In my 2020 post-election letter to the candidates, in which I congratulate the losers and condole the winner, I advised Biden to disarm the curse by resigning from office and leaving politics. Thus his political career dies instead of him. I warned him that the later he leaves, the more likely that the ‘health problem’ is real. He fol...
