Veterans of Armageddon

 

 

          We, the veterans of Armageddon

          who have survived to see this day

          despite nation’s wrath and market’s greed

          despite oppressor’s lies and fool’s illusions

          despite all public madness, we have lived unto this day

          because we hold these truths to be self-evident:

          that false is not true, and no is not yes;

          that slavery is not freedom, and war is not peace;

          that poverty is not wealth, and ignorance is not wisdom;

          that misery is not joy, and hatred is not love;

          that evil is not good, and death is not life.

          We too have erred; we too have wandered through darkness

          but despite all chaos, we still remember the difference.

          Thus we survive. Blessed be reason!
