     On Quiet Quitting a Bullshit Job

 

 

There are at least two definitions of ‘quiet quitting’:
* Doing just enough to not get fired.
* Doing only what you are paid for.

 

Quiet quitting the first way is crooked; quiet quitting the second way is honest. Those two definitions are equivalent for all bullshit jobs, where you are paid for not getting fired. Most jobs are bullshit jobs; and quiet quitting a bullshit job is as crooked as it is honest.

 

Quiet quitting a bullshit job proves a Soviet-era Russian adage:

They pretend to pay us, and we pretend to work.
